We have had customers calling wanting to know how to calculate roof pitch. Roof pitch is the amount the roof rises for 12 inches of horizontal distance. So if you put a ruler under your roof eve and go out 12 inches, mark that spot, then measure up to the roof line you would get the pitch number. For instance, if the roof rises 6 inches, that’s a 6 pitch roof. Many say the rise over the horizontal distance, such as 6/12, to specify its 6 inches of rise for 12 inches of horizontal distance, but its pretty much accepted that if you say a pitch number that’s for 12 inches of run.
Our sloped units are cut to 5 3/4 pitch and should fit most roofs you can walk easily with a small gap in the front or the back, so knowing the pitch number isn’t really required. Plus they are easy to cut in the field if you like. This does not apply to M units, we need a pitch number for those due to their size.
