How much can it really leak?

We have had a few comments about “OK, so my flashing is torn away. Its only a small gap between the vent and the lead, so how much can it really leak? It can leak a lot actually. If you compare the surface area of the opening of a 1 1/2 inch vent to the area opened by a torn flashing, they are very close to the same. So if it rains some 2 inches in an hour, according to our tests, you get some 50 ml down the vent and the same in the decking. That’s a lot of water over time, and a lot of rot.
