You may not be able to see it from the ground, but from the top you can see how the lead has been chewed off and there is now a gap between the lead and the outside of the vent pipe. This allows rain to fall directly into the decking of the roof and start to rot it. You may not notice this unless the leak is so bad it starts to stain the ceiling, but over the life of the roof it will do major damage.
