There are questions on why squirrels chew the lead off the vent pipes. There are no real answers, nobody speaks squirrel to ask. But its thought that its either its soft enough to chew to sharpen their teeth. Since they are rodents, their teeth constantly grow, and they have to be ground down. Lead seems to do the trick. So does PVC. The other reason may be that it tastes sweet. We humans had a real problem in the 50s with lead based paint being chewed by children causing all kinds of brain disorders. They found the reason was its sweet tasting. Paints now latex or enamel so we don’t have this problem.
Critter Quitters are made of a plastic that gives the squirrels no benefit in chewing, so they leave it alone.
