Since the majority of our products deal with lead flashing, why doesnt every state use rubber grommet flashing? After all, its squirrel proof and looks better than a bunch of gray, wrinkled up lead.
The problem is that rubber grommet fails over time when exposed to UV light. Since the sunshine states of the coastal South are loaded with UV along with the corrosive effects of sea water and heavy rains, after 8-12 years the rubber becomes brittle and fractures easily. This really becomes apparent if a roof is replaced but the flashing isnt. Then a leak is almost assured, and since rubber is at the roof line, its going to be Niagra Falls when it rains hard. So lead is used in high sunshine heavy rain areas, and rubber elsewhere. Products are on the way that will resolve both of these from Avalon, so stand by.
